Have you ever saved a document you were working on only to recoil in horror with the realization that you saved over something you wanted, losing it forever? Versionary is an innovative utility developed by Santorini Consulting & Design, Inc., designed to protect your critical documents automatically in a variety of unique ways. It protects your word processing documents, your drawings, your page layouts, your source code, etc. It loads at machine startup and works automatically and non-obtrusively, watching you work and protecting you as it does so. Versionary is configured via its own control panel.
Here are Versionary's protection modes:
Versioning
----------
If you've ever saved a document and then realized that you clobbered your work by forgetting to do a "save as...", versioning is for you.
Versionary automatically creates versions of your documents as you work on them. When you save a document, Versionary automatically creates a version of the document preserving the way it was before the save. Additionally, it provides an automatic audit trail allowing you to later go back in time to recover from mistakes. The current document you are working on remains the most current version.
Versions are just like the current documents except that they reflect a prior state of that document. Their names are the same as the current document except that they are suffixed by a version document. As an example, if you are editing a MSWrod document named "my resume", then when you save, Versionary will create a MSWord document "my resume.1" which is the way the document was before you saved. The next time you save, it will create "my resume.2". And so on and so forth. All the while, you continue working on "my resume"
You tell Versionary how many versions of documents to keep. Versionary allows you to limit the number of versions so that the oldest versions are automatically deleted. For example, if you tell Versionary to only keep 5 versions, when it creates the sixth, it will delete the first. You can also control when versions are made. You can, for instance, tell Versionary to make a new version no more than once every hour. Additionally, you can exclude documents from versioning according to a variety of criteria. For example, you can tell Versionary to only version Microsoft Word documents if they are smaller than 100K and only if they are located in a certain folder.
You can instruct Versionary to keep your versions in a variety of different locations, even on other volumes.
A variety of other options allow you to set up the versioning process exactly as you like it.
Backup
------
By instructing Versionary to keep your versions on another volume (a floppy, other hard disk, even over the network), Versionary becomes an innovative automatic backup program. Should something happen to your primary hard disk, your versions will be secure on the other volume.
Autosaving
----------
Versionary can be instructed to automatically save your documents as you edit them based on elapsed time, number of keystrokes, or number of mouseclicks. Never again will you lose your edit changes because you forgot to save.
Keyboard Recording
-----------------
Versionary can be instructed to automatically record all of your keystrokes to a special file, insuring you can recover data should an application or your machine crash at an innopportune time.
Compression
-----------
If you own Fifth Generation Systems’/Salient’sDiskDoubler, Versionary can be instructed to automatically compress your versions, even while you are idle.
HELP
----
Versionary comes with complete online help, accessible at all times from the control panel.
INSTALLATION
-------------
Installing Versionary is straightforward.
Versionary consists of four files:
“Versionary”
“Versionary User Settings”
“Versionary App Data”
“Versionary Help”
On System 6 machines...
Drag the “Versionary” file into your Control Panels folder.
Drag the other three files into your System folder.
On System 7 machines...
Drag all four files onto your CLOSED system folder and the files will be placed in their proper
system folders. Or manually drag the "Versionary" file into your Control Panels folder and
the other three files into your Preferences folder.
DEMO/SHAREWARE EDITION:

This edition of Versionary is for demonstration purposes only and is restricted. It is restricted in three fashions.
1) It only works with the following applications:
Microsoft Word

SuperPaint
2) Versionary will only work for 2 hours after your machine is restarted. After that time, it will disable itself and you will have to restart your machine to enable it for another 2 hours of operation. Versionary will inform you when it disables itself in this way.
3) Versionary will only load for 20 consecutive restarts of your machine. After that time, it will no longer load and will not work. Versionary will inform you when it has exceeded its restarts limit.
A lot of hard work went into developing Versionary. If you use the product and like it, you'll probably want an unrestricted edition. Once you register, you will be mailed a registration card and a new time-unrestricted edition of Versionary. That means you will be able to run your edition of Versionary without any expirations or timeouts (see below).
If you wish to have Versionary work with other applications, not supported in the demo/shareware edition (see below), you may call Santorini for a customized edition which will then be mailed to you for $100.
